Bowra 12s vs smithtown 30/4/2016
1st game of the year for the boys after a bye first up. Against a pretty evenly matched Smithtown, team defence was key for the day. Bowra held a strong defensive line, their line of speed was good and shoulders were being used. Brandon Willer led in defence and was supported by Blake Spear and Baylun Green, while forwards Tristan McElvie, Lochie McKewen and Wyatt Rouse got us going forward and put Smithtown on the back foot.
Final score 12-6 try scorers Wyatt Rouse 2 and Tommy Martin.
Bowra 12s vs Sawtell 7/5/2016
After a great first up win Bowra headed to Sawtell to play the Panthers who have a habit of beating us in tight games. From the outset Bowra looked a more complete and better footy side. Our two first receivers Max Thompson and Brandon Willer both had outstanding games directing our team around and controlling the game. Connor Lockyer playing at fullback pulled off two of the best cover defensive tackles I've ever witnessed, not only stopping two certain tries, but smashing the player in the process.
Final score 20-12. Try scorers Jai Wassens, Tommy Martin, Kye Garzoli and Cody Tyreman.
Bowra 12s vs Coffs Harbour 14/5/2016
Bowra came into this game undefeated but in their own minds didn't give themselves a chance against the much bigger Coffs Harbour team. The score was 10-10 at half time and Bowra were playing badly. The boys only have to believe in themselves and they can challenge the top teams. In the second half heads went down and we were totally out muscled and out played with too much grabbing and not enough desire from the Bowra boys. Stand out player for Bowra was Malcolm Noble who ripped into Coffs all game without much help from his team mates.
Final score 10-34 try scorers were Wyatt Rouse and Connor Lockyer
Bowra 12a vs Woolgoolga 21/5/2016
After a very poor performance the previous week the boys needed to bounce back and they did in great style, winning 32-6 vs Woolgoolga. Wyatt Rouse, Malcolm Noble and Henry Stranlund having his first game as captain laid a great platform for the whole team allowing the boys to play some good footy on the back of big metres.
Try scorers were Wyatt Rouse 2, Connor Lockyer, Kye Garzoli, Henry Stranlund and Malcolm Noble.
Bowra 12s vs Kempsey 28/5/2016
Bowra 12s ventured to Kempsey to try and keep their great start to the season going. The boys seemed switched on and ready to go and this was evident by scoring on the very first play of the game, with a length of the field barnstorming run from Tristan McElvie. This try first up was probably not a great thing as the boys then thought it was an easy game to win and our effort dropped away. Malcolm Noble and Noah Thompson were both very strong in a scrappy game which was not great to watch with the referee only having both sides 3 metres apart, this made playing footy hard with a lot of pressure being on both sides first receivers. In the end a 22 all draw was probably a fair result, with the Bowra boys not really playing to their full potential.
Try scorers were Wyatt Rouse 2, Tristan McElvie and Malcolm Noble.
