Round 2 v Kempsey
With ball handling being a big talking point leading up to this game a drop ball off the kick off was not the start we were after. But to the boys credit there defence was again much improved on last year. With a huge wind behind the back of Kempsey they were again the first to score the first 2 try's. Once Bowra held a bit of ball we saw some massive runs from Josh Stuart to get the boys up the field, once in the attacking zone the ball was spread wide to Liam Cuffe who crossed for Bowra's first try. Liam's try was not converted which took the score to 10-4 Kempsey. Another try to both Kempsey and also another to Liam took the half time score to 14-8 Kempsey.
With some guiding words from the coaching staff, after half time the bowra boys came out firing with 2 quick trys, first one a great wingers try to Liam Azzopardi which he converted from the sideline, the second was scored by young Jack Cleversley which was again converted to take the score to 20-14 Bowra. Kempsey were on the ropes, Bowra just needed to land the knock out blow but with a couple of penalties and alot of drop ball from Bowra, Kempsey got a second wind and were attacking our line for at least 6 sets which eventually lead to Kempsey crossing in the corner. The try was coverted to take it to 20 all with only 3 minutes left. Off the tap restart well deserved players player Josh Stuart took the first hit up which drew a penalty, he took the next 2 runs which also lead to penalties. So Bowra were on the attack 10 out but a wayward pass lead to a knock on and full time was called on the match. Again the boys defended very well but ball control will be spoken about at training this week. The return of Taejarn Swan made a big difference in both attack and defence today.
