Round 3 v Sawtell
With Sawtell coming off a win the week before against last year's grand final winners Woolgoolga we knew it was going to be a tough game. The boys defence had been sensational for the opening 2 rounds and knew ball handling would be the key for this match.
The first half saw again some great defence through the middle thanks to captain Taejarn Swan, Josh Stuart, Nate Pike and Jordan Welsh which continually turned the ball over to us in good field position. From a great run from Lachlan Johnson drew a penalty which a tap was taken quickly by new halfback Jack Cleversley which he then delivered a nice ball to Liam Cuffe who beat a least 6 defenders on his way to the try line. Not long after that Bowra were in again thanks to Josh Willer seeing a gap in the defence and scoring from dummy half. This is when we thought it was time to bring on the second wave of attack so out went Symon Gleeson, Ethan Williams, Darcy Fitzgerald, Jake Lowick, Jack Nash and Jake Duckett. These guys kept taking it to Sawtell both in attack and defence, this lead to Liam Cuffe's second try on half time. A great half of footy saw us in front 16 - 0.
The second half saw Sawtell cross for there first straight after the break. But to the boys credit they were unfazed and continued on from the first half. From the tap restart the ball was passed to Brayth Ledger who stepped his way passed no less then 8 defenders before getting tackled, with a quick play the ball the ball headed to another new halfback Brayden Luffman who then with the boys working well running good lines did a well timed show and go to cross for Bowra's first try of the second half. Sawtell had the tap restart which saw them try a early kick but with our very safe wingers Zander Bonnet and Liam Azzopardi that are always switched on saw Liam easily shut it down and make some good metres down the field. Good service out of dummy half from Brody Howle saw Brayden cross for his second in the same way he scored his first. To put the icing on the cake the Players player for the day Liam Cuffe crossed for his 3rd try of the day. So again a very pleasing effort from the boys who are all sharing the work. Bowra run out winners 30 to 4.
