Round 9 v Kempsey

The U13's were very slow out of the blocks to start their home game against Kempsey, and Kempsey capitalized by scoring the first points of the match, 4-0.

Then Brady Atkins won the race to a Logan Jones grubber kick to score his first of the day. Simon Walker converted the goal, to lead 6-4. But the Tigers fell asleep again and Kempsey were in, to lead 10-6. Then Jones found a gap and out paced everyone to level the scores 10-10.

But the errors continued for the Tigers, and the solid, committed defence that we'd seen the previous weeks wasn't there as the Dragons scored another easy try. 14-10. Jones scores from a very determined long distance run to bring the scores level at halftime 14-14.

The Tigers were happy it was a draw, as they knew they weren't playing their best, but were still in the game.

The 2nd half got underway and Jones grabbed his 3rd for the day and everyone was hoping the Tigers had turned the corner as they lead 18-14. But the lacklustre defence continued and Kempsey blew the score out to 34-18. Hooker Brady Atkins gave his team some hope, as he got his 1st ever hatrick by scoring the Tigers next 2 tries, very sneakily barging over from dummy half. 34-28. But the Dragons sealed the victory with a try on Fulltime to win 40-28.

Logan Jones, Toby Kinnear and Himayet Robinson worked tirelessly the whole game, with hit up after hit up and tackle after tackle, trying to lift their teammates. Centre Steve Borg also worked hard in defence out wide and came in to have some runs and gained valuable meters.

A debutante for the Tigers, Sam Bekis was very impressive in his 1st ever game of Rugby League. Playing at Fullback, Sam was very safe under the high ball, made some great tackles and looked dangerous in attack. Another debutante, Jacob Gardner also showed great potential and once settled in, will be valuable team member.

If you can score 28 points, you should be able to win the match. We know we can score points, The Tigers need to show more commitment and urgency in defence like they have in recent weeks and they will be back in the winner's circle.
