13's v Woolgoolga

The Tigers were on the road to take on the Woolgoolga Seahorses at their home ground, on a cold rainy Saturday morning. It's always a tough road trip, as the boys have discovered in recent seasons, so hard in fact, it almost feels the Seahorses have an extra player on the field at times.

After back to back penalties and 'six again call', it was Woolgoolga who crossed first to lead 6-0. This was the only time that Woolgoolga would trouble the score board, as the Tigers defence became more like a brick wall, led by forwards Tyrell West, Himayet Robinson Toby Kinnear, Jack Hillery, Alex Howard and David Styles.

Two long range tries and 1 off a Simon Walker inside pass saw five-eighth Logan Jones grab a first half hatrick, to lead 16-6 at halftime. Woolgoolga threw everything at the Tigers outside backs Steve Borg, Keith Donovan, Logan Jones and Clay Perkins, but couldn't get any results.

Braydon Gill who was dangerous in attack and busy in defence produced one of his trademark try saving tackles. Tyrell West was in for a well deserved try off a Simon Walker bomb, after some great lead up work from Charley Townley down the sideline. Another well deserved tryscorer was Toby Kinnear who went on a 'Marty Taupau like' barnstorming run to cross the line for his 1st ever try!! Fulltime score read 26-6.

This was another great performance by the 13's in tough conditions, which is really pleasing for the coaching staff. With more work at training, let's hope this continues.

13’s Rd 5 v Nambucca

Defence was the main focus for the BOWRA 13's this week. We know we can score points, but, as they say, Defence wins matches. The boys have been really improving in recent weeks with their tackling, really working hard for each other. So they wanted to prove a point, and that they did, with a massive 50-0 victory at Hennessy Tape Oval.

After a sluggish start from the Tigers, Nambucca applied some pressure early in the Tigers end of the field. But the boys' defence was strong and gave Nambucca no options, which frustrated them.

The Tigers clicked into gear and went on a rampage to lead 36-0 at halftime. The 2nd half was cut short with 18mins to go. If the Tigers can keep up the strong defence, 'get in there' and work hard for each other, great results will continue.

Highlights of the Game:

• Clay Perkins amazing catch from a Nambucca clearing kick, the ball dropped late at his shins, but Clay took it no problems

• Toby Kinnear's charge from the kickoff which saw him run the length of the field, only to brought down metres from the tryline.

• Tyrell West shift from Lock to halfback and scoring a brilliant try.

• Brady Atkins sneaky try

• Zac Single from the 12's scoring a try from dummy half

• Logan Jones' 24 point haul, with 3 tries and 6/7 goals from all over the field.

A big thankyou to the 12's Zac and Lachie Craggs for backing up.

Under 13's v Kempsey

13's v Kempsey

The 13's were on the road to take on Kempsey at Verge St Oval.

The 1st half saw a close encounter as both teams went try for try. The Tigers were first to score when Logan Jones beat nearly every player on the park by stepping, weaving and palming every player that came near him, to eventually put the ball down next to the posts. Simon Walker converted. Then Kempsey scored. 6-6.

After some great lead up work, the Tigers were in good field position and Toby Kinnear produced an offload to give his Back row partner Tyrell West, who is relishing a new role, his first try of the day. Walker converts. Kempsey scored again. 12-12. The Tigers then applied the pressure with heavy defence and forced Kempsey back into in goal. From the line drop-out Jones grabbed a double, to put the Tigers ahead at Halftime 16-12. This clicked the Tigers into gear, with some rock solid defence; they went on a rampage, scoring 5 tries to 1 in the 2nd half.

Some great team tries, as the ball went through many sets of hands. Logan Jones getting another 2, Tyrell West 1(really 2, that would've given him a hat trick but we won't talk about that). Keith Donovan scored 2, the 1st after sending the ball out to the backs, Keith charged onto the ball, like he did all day in a very impressive performance, bulldozed through the defenders to get the ball down. His 2nd came when the defenders rushed up quick, Walker put in a smart little grubber kick, for Keith to determinedly pounce on to the ball.

The 2nd half was a brilliant performance by the team; Clay Perkins, Steve Borg, Charley Townley and Brady Atkins were getting our sets off to a great start with great runs. Toby Kinnear, Jack Hillery, Alex Howard and David Styles taking some strong hit ups, which help set up all the try scorers.

A big thankyou to the U12's O'Shay Tyreman, Lachie Craggs, Zac Single and Finn Stephens, who had to start, and played great for us, as we were short.

The Tigers are really playing for each other out there and it's showing in defence with everybody working hard, showing up and tackling together. Let's hope this continues!!

Under 13's 16th May

The 13's had to settle for a nail biting, hard fought 20-20 draw in their 1st home game of the year. This was a little unfortunate as Sawtell never had the lead in the game. The boys showed a lot of heart and courage and were the better team for the majority of the match, every player really got involved and had a real good go. It was only our mistakes that let Sawtell stay in the match.

At times, the Tigers looked like world beaters in attack, Clay Perkins who was having a WOW of a game, constantly got our sets moving with some great  metre eating dummy half scoots. Then, with Forwards, Himayat Robinson, Toby Kinnear, Jack Hillery, Alex Howard and Tyrell West 1 try, making great inroads up the middle. This let Hooker Brady Atkins, halves Simon Walker and Logan Jones 3 tries, provide the outside backs, Steve Borg, Keith Donovan, Charley Townley and Braydon Gill 1 Try, some room to move.

In defence, the Tigers worked hard for each other. Tyrell West and Jack Hillery, another 2, who were having big games, got through a mountain of work. Himayat Robinson and Toby Kinnear were putting on some strong tackles. Logan Jones and Steve Borg did great jobs and were kept very busy out wide marking up on Sawtell's danger men.

It's great to see this team play as a TEAM, when we cut the mistakes down, this team will be a force to be reckoned with.

A huge thankyou to Lachie Craggs, O'Shay Tyreman and Zac Single from the 12's that backed up and played brilliantly.

BOWRA 20 ( L. Jones 3, T. West, B. Gill, tries) drew Sawtell 20.
