vs Coffs Harbour

Congratulations to the lads and the Coaching staff on securing the Minor Premiership for 2015!!!!. Well done, you lads have been the best side in the Competition all year and deserve the title, however the job is still only half done.

As the Bowra spectators and cheerleaders Fergo, Locky, Claijah and "swing batter batter swing" Ulyssis witnessed on Saturday it is easy to lose focus and stumble. With only one set completed in the first half due to handling errors and some woeful defence Bowra found themselves behind 16 – 10 at half time.

The ten points of the first half were accounted for by Rhino and Bruno scoring tries in the left hand corner, and with a stiff down field wind Bruno converted one of the tries to a six pointer. Fitzy shoved the Coffs winger over the sideline as he dived for the line in a desperate attempt to close out the first half of the game for Coffs. A grubber kick from Rhino with a perfect bounce also saw Fitzy go in for a try, however he was called off side in a controversial call. Two great put ya body on the line tackles by fullback Cody "where and when was that again" Rofe halted Coffs scoring more tries in the first half, while some good defence and line breaks from Flynn and Rooster playing at hooker provided some hope of a comeback.

Coach Luke Bateman marched the boys over behind the northern goal posts at half time and tore the boys a new one. We weren't sure what Bato was saying but as the Cheer leaders stopped their approach and didn't want to join the group we assumed it was harsh.

The second half started with the Coffs Comets going in to score their fourth try and it looked like the boys could lose this one as the score was now 22 - 10. Skipper Gordon Moore mustered the boys, Rooster slotted back into halfback and Jasper into fullback and he made some high impact one on one tackles that rattled the Coffs attack. This is what we came to see!!, Bowra lifted in defence and began to organise some attacking raids which saw Rhino cross for his second try, and with only minutes to spare Jasper was rewarded for his great defence with a try just before the hooter. Bumps stepped in line with the Referees mark as the full time hooter sounded and set up his super tee to take the kick. Thriving on the pressure Bumps soaked it all up, waltzed in and nailed the kick to bring the full time score to 22 – 22.

With the Coffs Harbour boys displaying more than a fair share of gamesmanship and obviously being off the list for the Ref's next birthday party, the Bowra boys were up against it in the second half. The determination of this champion team in the second half was outstanding with all lads giving 100 %. The lads showed they can put the bad decisions behind them and get on with the game and outscore the opposition even when things aren't going their way. Best of luck for the finials lads.
