v Smithtown

It was a beautiful winter's day when The U14's Bowraville Tigers played host to a very determined Smithtown at Hennessey-Tape oval on Saturday. The Tigers scored some great and very entertaining team tries, and showed some real brick wall like defence to run away 46-18 victors. The Tigers denied some early pressure from their opponents with some great committed defence. Some great work in both attack and defence from 2nd Rowers Steve Borg and Joe Howarth, and with Toby Kinnear strongly leading from the front, got the Tigers in some good field position, using their backline, Logan Jones threw a long ball out to Centre Sam Bekis, who made a good run and offloaded back to Jones who beat 2 defenders to score next to the posts. Simon Walker converted 6-0. Brady Atkins scooped onto another long ball and showed great pace to score in the corner. Jones slotted the goal to lead 12-0. Strong running centre Brody Harris burst onto the ball and crashed through tacklers to score. Tyrell West looked like Valentine Holmes as he dived, and with his body in the air, reached around the corner post and put the ball down with one hand. As Jones ran in for his 2nd the Tigers led 24-0 at halftime. Smithtown scored 2 quick tries after the break, but it didn't take long for the Tigers to click back into their groove, score some more great tries and get their strong, hard hitting tackles back, led by Himayat Robinson, Alex Howard and Kinnear. Simon Walker and Kaiden Sakaio combined and guided the team around brilliantly. Jones scored another 3 tries in the 2nd half, one from great lead up work, for Robinson, to tip on to Jones who went through untouched. Sakaio then took the ball to the line, passed and with another brilliant tip on from Kinnear, again, Jones went in untouched. After another spectacular run, beating several players Jones scored under the posts. Sakaio then went through a yawning gap to score a very well deserved try.

It was a great team display from the Tigers, as they are looking to put some strong performances together before the finals. Let's keep up the commitment for eachother!!

BOWRA 46 (Jones 5, Atkins, Harris, West, Sakaio tries. Walker 4, Jones goals). Beat Smithtown 18.
