Under 14's Round 4 Match Report
Bowra 14s travelled to Kempsey to take on the much improved Dragons , who were confident coming off a big win the week before ,the boys have had an up and down start to the season with their ball handling being an issue , you could really see an improvement in their efforts this wk with all boys working hard to come up with a more determined team effort .
The first 20 minutes was a scoreless event with both sides testing each other out in a real arm wrestle , Kempsey crossed the for the first 2 tries and it looked at one stage they may run away with the game but a determined Malcom Noble try converted by Zane Jones took us to half time 8-6 down .
The second half was a stop start affair with numerous stoppages in play for injuries , plenty of penalties and too many handling errors from both teams really not allowing either team to dominate or get into any sort of groove .
Blake Spear slotted over a penalty to level the game up at 8 all with about 15 min to go and it was game on . Both teams intensity lifted and had all spectators on the edge of their seats , unfortunately Bowra had a player put in the sin bin which made the job a little harder but the boys were digging deep , unfortunately Kempsey snuck over out wide to reclaim the lead 12 - 8 and that was the final score , the last few minutes saw the Bowra boys throw the ball around and run with vigour but to Kempsey credit they held us out .
In a much improved team effort althou only just on the wrong side of the scoreboard Malcom Noble was a constent threat , Tristan Mckelvie bent the line with every run and hit hard in defence , Blake Spear had a much improved defensive game making some telling tackles on the bigger Kempsey pack but our player of the match was Lincoln Noble playing his first game in the forwards , he tore in all game with a no fear attitude .
This comp is so even with all 4 of our games this season being decided by only 4 pts in each game , so their are plenty of nail biters ahead .
A huge thank you goes to Brodie Moore , Wes Brown , Zane Jones and their parents for bringing these boys to Kempsey after already playing earlier in the day at Coffs , what a super effort going above and beyond the call for their club and mates .
