Under 14's Round 7 Match Report

Bowra U/14's vs Kempsey
A perfect day for football out at "God's Country" welcomed the boys after 2 solid training sessions throughout the week. Without the physicality of Tristan McKelvie, the boys knew they had to step up against a very talented Kempsey side. With the focus of winning the ruck and controlling the football drilled into their heads, the boys started strong with some solid runs from prop forwards Joe Young and Jarrod Fuller, putting the Dragons on the back foot with their quick play the balls. Unfortunately, the boys were caught short out wide leading to 2 quick tries from Kempsey's speedsters, 0-12.
With Bowra keeping their heads up, some solid defence from the likes of Malcolm Noble and Wyatt Rouse forced the Kempsey turnover, eventuating to a try next to the posts as Brodie Moore proved too strong once again for his older opponents, 4-12. With Jack Peachman being as safe as ever at the back and halves pairing Brandon Willer and Lockie McEwen directing the troops, Bowra found themselves close to the try line once again with some great running from Blake Spear and Gary Flanders playing out in the centres. Just before the half time siren sounded, Malcolm Noble seen an opportunity at dummy half close to the line and scooted over for Bowra's second try, 10-12.
The second half saw the boys start strong once again with some crisp passes out of dummy half from Jai Wassens and great running from Lincoln Noble and youngsters Zane Jones and Diem Woods. Some good turtling defence by the Bowra boys held Kempsey out for the majority of the 2nd half before the Dragons eventually crossed the line after 3 goal line defensive sets, 10-16. This put the Bowra boys on the backfoot as Kempsey continued to stroll their way up the field crossing for 3 more late tries taking the final score to 10-30 in the away team's favour.
Although we didn't come away with the win, there was a big improvement from all the boys as they slowly creep back into 2017 form. The boys should hold their heads up and look forward to improving even more in next week's game against NamSaw. See you at training.
